Committees, AGs and Reps
Our Committees, Advisory Groups (AGs) and Reps play an important role in the running of AOTI and in achieving our objectives
Committees
AOTI Committees assist us in setting policy and running programmes in some of our key activity areas. Below is a brief outline of our Committees:
- Accreditation Committee: The Accreditation Committee is responsible for the Initial Approval, Accreditation, Re-Accreditation and Monitoring of Occupational Therapy Professional Qualification programmes in the Republic of Ireland on behalf of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), leading to the award of WFOT Approved programme and on behalf of the Council of AOTI, leading to the award of AOTI Accredited programme.
- Ann Beckett Committee: The Ann Beckett Committee runs this annual AOTI award that recognises excellence in Occupational Therapy practice. The Committee receives, processes and adjudicates applications from AOTI members.
- Communications Committee: The Communications Committee is responsible for the image/branding of AOTI and also for public relations. The Communication Committee also manages the AOTI Facebook and Twitter accounts and produce our newsletter.
- Conference Committee: The Conference Committee works all year round to organise and run the AOTI Annual Conference.
- Documents Committee: The Documents Committee oversees the production of all AOTI publications including position papers and guidelines.
- Evidence Based Practice (EBP) & Research Committee: The EBP & Research Committee promotes evidence based practice and research in the Occupational Therapy profession and develops resources to support members
- IJOT Editorial Board: The Editorial Board is the Committee responsible for producing the Irish Journal of Occupational Therapy.
- International Committee: The International Committee is made up of delegates and alternate delegates of WFOT, COTEC and ENOTHE and a representative of the AOTI Management Team.

Advisory Groups
Advisory Groups advise the AOTI Management Team on professional practice matters and provide members with CPD and peer networking opportunities. Our AGs are comprised of members with a common practice interest. They are a branch of the Association and are therefore accountable to the Management Team for all activities. The purpose of AOTI Advisory Groups is:
- To encourage, promote, facilitate and support the advancement of occupational therapy practice within their area of occupational therapy.
- To be proactive and take responsibility for information gathering, strategic thinking and influencing policy and service delivery in Ireland.
- To highlight to the AOTI Management Team new developments in occupational therapy practice as well as any concerns related to professional practice.
AOTI currently has seventeen AGs in the areas of child and adolescent mental health; housing; intellectual disability; mental health; musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain; management; neurology; older people; paediatrics; palliative care and oncology; primary care; private practice; seating and posture homelessness, obesity. Representatives
AOTI members represent our profession in a wide range of national and international forums. Our national representatives sit on HSE and Departmental working groups, advisory groups, clinical programmes and other ad hoc group. Our international representatives include a Delegate and Alternate Delegate for the following international Occupatioanl Therapy bodies:
